			<title>GPM Science Team Meeting, Annapolis, MD, 18-21 March 2013</title>
			<link>http://meghatropiques.ipsl.polytechnique.fr/latest/gpm-science-team-meeting-annapolis-md-18-21-march.html</link>
			<description>
The US GPM science team meeting just took place near Washington DC.
It was the first time this renewed group of investigators met. Drs Viltard and Roca
participated to the event as usual (the french MT scientists are part of the team through
a no-cost proposal since 2007). And it was a great opportuniy to update the international
science community on the status of the Megha-Tropiques mission. The MT presentation can be found here (dmdocuments/Roca_PMM2013_Annapolis_final.pdf) .

This meeting also confirmed the insolent TRMM life expectancy (expected to acquire data up to 2017)
and the readiness for launch of the GPM core in Feb 2014. As far as the GPM constellation is concerned
it now includes around 10 platforms since the 183GHz sounders are fully now endorsed as useful measurements
for rain estimation. This of course includes the SAPHIR instrument and the alike MHS, ATMS etc...
Please also note the new multimedia materials made available to communicate about GPM that can be
easily found on the GPM web site (http://pmm.nasa.gov/precipitation-measurement-missions) .

			<description>
An indo-french Megha-Tropiques scientific workshop has been held in
India, at ISRO Headquarters in Bangalore, from 17th to 19th December
2012. 37 french scientists have attended the workshop as well numerous
indian colleagues (photo (images/stories/mission/photo_2012_Inde_crop.jpeg)). The preliminary Megha-Tropiques data
analysis and results have been presented one year after the launch.
These encouraging results are supportive of a full release of the data
sets in the coming weeks. A communiqu&amp;eacute; by the two spaces agencies,
ISRO and CNES will be soon released with details on the calendar. Note
also that the delegation was kindly invited at the french consulate in
Bangalore where the consul, Mr Eric Lavertu and the new attach&amp;eacute; for
science and technology Dr Jenifer Clark, provided a warm welcome to
the french scientists.

			<title>17 july 2012: begining of the second phase of the Radio-Sounding Campaign</title>
			<link>http://meghatropiques.ipsl.polytechnique.fr/latest/17-july-2012-begining-of-the-second-phase-of-the-radio-sounding-cam-2.html</link>
			<description>
The first Radio-Sounding Campaign
dedicated to MT-SAPHIR based Water Vapor products validation covered
the 29th May - 11th June (15 days) thanks to a lot of support from
ASECNA (Agence pour la SECurit&amp;eacute; de la NAvigation Aerienne en Afrique et
Madagascar). See an example of trajectory of a radio-souding here (index.php?option=com_content task=view id=191 Itemid=82) .

The second phase of this Campaign is aimed at sampling the
moister atmosphere in the heart of the African Monsson and will cover
the 17th July - 2nd August period. Every day a pair of radio sounding
is launched in synchronization with Megha-Tropiques overpasses. The 2
RS are launched 35 min apart to allow simultaneous sampling of the
lower and upper part of the troposphere while MT is overpassing.

			<title>June 2012: How to obtain historical orbital informations of Megha-Tropiques?</title>
			<link>http://meghatropiques.ipsl.polytechnique.fr/latest/june-2012-how-to-obtain-historical-orbital-informations-of-megha-tropi.html</link>
			<description>
For each satellite, the IXION (http://climserv.ipsl.polytechnique.fr/ixion.html) software, devlopped at LMD, provides three relevant informations:

- Orbit (map with the satellite ground track)

- Local view (overpass schedule for a given location),

- Sampling (monthly table of overpasses).

With this new version, you can get now, for Megha-Tropiques, all those informations for any date between October 12, 2011 (launch date) and today. The orbit is calculated with the orbital elements of the selected day.

			<title>15-20th of April 2012: 30th Conference on Hurricanes and Tropical Meteorology, USA</title>
			<link>http://meghatropiques.ipsl.polytechnique.fr/latest/15-20th-of-april-2012-30th-conference-on-hurricanes-and-tropical-meteorolog.html</link>
			<description>
Megha-Tropiques was present at the 30th Conference on Hurricanes and Tropical Meteorology that took place in Ponte-Vedra Beach, FL, USA on 15-20th of April 2012. The Megha-Tropiques data set is an invaluable source of information for the community working on tropical meteorology and hurricane forecast. Nicolas Viltard gave two talks, one on the mission status and the other on the MT-II field campaign during DYNAMO in the Maldives in November-December 2011. Both talks (recorded during the conference) are available at:
http://ams.confex.com/ams/30Hurricane/webprogram/ (http://ams.confex.com/ams/30Hurricane/webprogram/) when entering viltard in the search field.

The slides alone can be found here (dmdocuments/MT_Hurricane_and_Tropical_2012_NV.pdf) and here (dmdocuments/DYNAMO_Hurricane_and_Tropical_2012_NV.pdf) respectively.

			<title>French scientists meet around Megha-Tropiques in Bordeaux</title>
			<link>http://meghatropiques.ipsl.polytechnique.fr/latest/french-scientists-meet-around-megha-tropiques-in-bor-2.html</link>
			<description>
Last week we organized a 3-days workshop where 50-60 people from a
large number of research laboratories all over the country, actively
participated. 4 years after a first encounter in La Rochelle, the meeting has permitted to showcase the status of the science around Megha-Tropiques and its progress over the recent years. It also gather the team of scientists that will form the Megha-tropiques French Science team. The topics of interests span a wide domain, ranging from tropical meteorology and hydrology to microphyiscs and scaterring radiative transfer in the micro wave region ! The agenda of the discussions is available here (colloque-bordeaux.html) and soon will also be the presentations. Beyond the actual science, the participants enjoyed being all together (the exceptionnal weather and the local gastronomy clearly contributed !). And it was nice wittnessing the french tropical science community gearing up for the use of its new tool.

All are now eagerly awaiting the data !

			<title>30 March 2012: the ATBDs for the TAPEER-BRAIN and MCS composite products are available</title>
			<link>http://meghatropiques.ipsl.polytechnique.fr/latest/march-2012-publication-of-the-atbd-of-the-l4-tapeer-brain-pr.html</link>
			<description>
Tapeer-BRAIN is a combined Microwave-Infrared accumulated precipitation estimation product implemented as a Megha-Tropiques Level 4 product. TAPEER stands for Tropical Amount of Precipitation with an Estimate of ERrors. It provides precipitation estimations and associated errors at the one-degree/one-day accumulated scale.

To characterize the evolution of the energy budget along the life cycle of convective systems, a MT level 4 product, called MCS composite has been developped.

The ATBD (Algorithm Theoritical Basis Document) of the TAPEER algorithm and MCS composite algorithm have been published under the Megha-Tropiques Technical Memorandum (available-documents/mttm/index.html) (MTTM) n&amp;deg;4 and n&amp;deg;5.
