23-25 March 2009 : International Megha-Tropiques conference in India

Annoucement of the International Conference on “MEGHA-TROPIQUES Science and Applications” Organized by Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) and Centre National d’Etudes Spatiales (CNES), in Bangalore, India, March 23-25, 2009 (Initially in January 2009, the MT conference is now held in March).

The primary goal of this conference will be to discuss how satellite data can be used to understand the variations in water vapor, clouds, liquid water, ice and radiation budget that occur in the tropics. The conference will have invited speakers as well as contributed papers. We welcome contributions from scientists all over the world. The conference website (http://www.mtconf2009.org ) provides more information about the conference, including the guidelines for submission of extended abstracts. All interested participants are requested to register through the conference website for receiving updates on the conference.

13-17 November 2008 : successful integration of the ScaRaB optical sensor at LMD
The ScaRaB optical sensor has been successfully integrated at LMD (Ecole Polytechnique, Palaiseau). Mid-November, it was transferred to CNES/Toulouse for further te3ts aNd fround calibration operations. This is an important event, especially for the LMD and CNES engineers and technicians who have been working on this project for several years. 9-12 september 2008: EUMETSAT satellite user conference
Darmstadt, Germany. The annual EUMETSAT satellite user conference was a good opportunity to advertise the futur MT satellite to a broad audiance. Dr Rémy Roca gave a presentation in the hydrometeorology session. The talk presented the anticipated coupling between the geostationnary observations and the MT level 2 data with the emphasis on the rainfall and Mesoscale Convective Systems related products.

August 2008: ScaRaB oral presentation in IRS'08
The IRS (International Radiation Symposium) conference is held every 4 years. This year it took place in Foz de Iguazu from 3 to 8 August 2008. Olivier Chomette was present for an oral presentation in session H (Radiation budget and forcing) whose title was "Radiation Measurements on Megha-Tropiques". He presented the instrument Scarab and the latest level 2 algorithmic developments for this instrument. He also presented the Megha-Tropiques mission and the three others on board instruments (Madras, Saphir and the GPS). Finally, he announced the conference in Ahmedabad next January 2009.
August 2008, USA: Precipitation Measurement Mission workshop
Fort Collins, CO, USA. Dr Roca attended the Precipitation Measurement Mission workshop where a presentation of the status of the french MT rainfall related activities was presented. The discussions were very interesting and provided many perspectives to the on going work. The gain from the soon to be confirmed participation of MT to the GPM constellation was discussed and it was realized that this collaboration  opens a new era of tropical sampling (especially the expected overlap between TMI and MADRAS)
