27 February 2014: Successful launch of GPM-Core
GPM Core satellite  (NASA/JAXA cooperation) was successfully launched from Tanegashima Space Center in southern Japan at 1:37 p.m. EST Thursday, Feb. 27.  The GPM Core will be on a 65° inclination orbit, sampling the tropics and the mid-latitudes with its passive microwave radiometer, GMI, and its two radars (Ka and Ku band), to detect rain and snow events. The GPM Core will be used as a reference to intercalibrate and compare all the data from the different satellites of the GPM constellation among which Megha-Tropiques is a key player between 30°N and 30°S.  Satellite operations and instruments checking will take place in the next few weeks. Data availability is foreseen 6 month from now.
